A Flight Helicopter Simulator: Very Close To The Real Thing At A Fraction Of The Cost.

By Sorrie Nevercomes

Any professional pilot will tell you that it's more difficult to fly a helicopter than an ordinary airplane. They handle in totally different ways and react differently to weather conditions like strong winds and snowstorms. A helicopter can of course also take off from a single point, which you can't do with any commercial airplane. There is no better way to get a feel for the way these machines reacts under different conditions than a good flight helicopter simulator.

It's not very surprising that all trainee pilots are expected to spend a certain number hours behind a the controls of a flight simulator before they will be allowed to touch the controls of an airplane. Modern era flight simulators are a cheap and extremely realistic way to prepare pilots for real-life conditions that would otherwise be life threatening or could result in damage worth millions of dollars.

Bad weather conditions are very often the cause of helicopter accidents. That is why it's so important that a flight simulator should be able to emulate all types of adverse weather.

There is simply no better way to make a newbie pilot familiar with the way a snowstorm or thunderstorm will effect his aircraft than using a flight simulator - that is without actually sending him into such a storm with a real helicopter. It's also the closest a computer user will ever hopefully come to flying under such conditions.

A good simulator will also have the ability to accurately recreate all the maneuvers that you can carry out with helicopters. This is once again quite different from what you can do with an ordinary airplane and if you are seriously interested in becoming a helicopter pilot you should become familiar with what these flying machines can do, and what they can't do.

Every flight helicopter simulator has an integrated scenery module and the more realistic this is, the more effective the simulator will be. If you want to fly a helicopter from London to Paris, the simulator should therefore be able to accurately portray the obstacles you will encounter en route.
